Product Description

KXT 600 Standard Spiral Wound Gasket

ASME B16.20 ASME B16.5 BS EN 1092 DIN / JIS / NF Cryogenic to 1000°C

The KXT 600 is a Standard Spiral Wound Gasket formed from a V-shaped metallic strip and a soft non-metallic filler. Support rings inside and outside the spiral improve handling, fitting, and versatility. With excellent compression resilience, it is suitable for sealing points where temperature and pressure change frequently. It is manufactured to ASME B16.20, ASME B16.5, BS1560, BS EN 1092, DIN, and JIS standards.

This Standard Spiral Wound Gasket is widely used in spiral wound gasket applications across oil and gas, petrochemical, chemical, power generation, metallurgy, shipbuilding, pharmaceutical, and nuclear industries. Typical installation points include pipe flanges, valves, pumps, heat exchangers, condensing towers, plain holes, and manholes. For heat exchanger service, the Spiral Wound Gasket for Heat Exchangers is available. Special material grades and nuclear-grade versions can be supplied on request.

Type & Advantage

R Type Basic Spiral Wound Gasket KXT600-R Item no.: KXT600-R

R Type Spiral Wound Gasket

KXT600-R Basic Type

  • Basic construction type. Inner and outer diameters are reinforced with several plies of metal without filler to give greater stability and better compression characteristics.
  • Recommended for flange tongue and groove, male to female, and flat face to recess.
  • Suitable for general and critical duties.
IR Type Inner Ring Spiral Wound Gasket KXT600-IR Item no.: KXT600-IR

IR Type Spiral Wound Gasket

KXT600-IR Inner Ring Type

  • Solid inner metal ring acts as a compression stopper. It prevents accumulation of solids, reduces turbulent flow of process fluids, and minimizes erosion and damage between the flange bore and the inside diameter of the gasket.
  • Suitable for male and female pipe flanges.
  • Suitable for general duties.
CG Type Outer Ring Spiral Wound Gasket KXT600-CG Item no.: KXT600-CG

CG Type Spiral Wound Gasket

KXT600-CG Outer Ring Type

  • Solid outer ring accurately locates the gasket on the flange face, provides additional radial strength to prevent gasket blowout, and acts as a compression limiter. The outer ring end touches the bolts, making installation easy.
  • Suitable for flat face and raised face flanges. For Class 900 and above, an internal ring is recommended.
  • Suitable for general and critical duties.
CGI Type Inner and Outer Ring Spiral Wound Gasket KXT600-CGI Item no.: KXT600-CGI

CGI Type Spiral Wound Gasket

KXT600-CGI Inner and Outer Rings Type

  • An inner ring and outer ring type gasket provides an additional compression limiting stopper for both the inner and outer side of the gasket. It prevents corrosion on the flange face at the annular space.
  • Suitable for flat face and raised face flanges and specified for high pressure or high temperature service, Class 900 and above, or where corrosive or toxic media are present.
  • Suitable for general and critical duties.

Selection Note: For Class 900 and above, or where corrosive or toxic media are present, CGI type is strongly recommended. When high-pressure or high-temperature cycling is expected, always verify bolt torque and compression limiter requirements against the latest ASME B16.20 guidance.

Typical Applications

  • Pipe, valve, pump, heat exchanger, condensing tower, plain hole, and manhole flange connections.
  • Petrochemical, chemical, mechanical manufacturing, power station, metallurgy, shipbuilding, medical and pharmaceutical, nuclear power, and marine industries.

Prime Features

  • Standard Spiral Wound Gaskets are made in a wide variety of sizes and shapes.
  • Combinations of metal strip and filler are selected to suit the specific fluid media and operating conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is a KXT 600 spiral wound gasket made of?

A: The KXT 600 spiral wound gasket is formed from a V-shaped metallic strip and a soft non-metallic filler. Support rings inside and outside the spiral improve handling, fitting, and versatility. Common winding materials include SS304, SS316L, SS321, SS347, Alloy 20, Hastelloy B3, Hastelloy C276, Incoloy 800, Incoloy 825, Inconel 600, Inconel 625, Monel 400, Nickel 200, and Titanium. Common fillers include flexible graphite, PTFE, ceramic, and mica graphite.

Q: What is the difference between R, IR, CG, and CGI type spiral wound gaskets?

A: R type is the basic construction without inner or outer rings. IR type has a solid inner metal ring acting as a compression stopper. CG type has a solid outer ring that centers the gasket and prevents blowout. CGI type has both inner and outer rings and is specified for high pressure, high temperature, or corrosive and toxic media service, typically Class 900 and above.

Q: What standards do KXT 600 spiral wound gaskets comply with?

A: KXT 600 spiral wound gaskets are manufactured to ASME B16.20, ASME B16.5, BS1560, ASME B16.47 A (B), BS EN 1092, DIN, JIS, and NF standards. Color coding per ASME B16.20 is available on request.

Q: What is the temperature range of a spiral wound gasket?

A: The temperature range depends on the metal strip and filler material combination. With flexible graphite filler, the gasket can operate from -350°F (-212°C) up to 950°F (510°C). With ceramic filler, it can operate up to 2000°F (1090°C). With PTFE filler, the range is -400°F (-240°C) to 500°F (260°C).

Q: When should I choose a CGI type instead of a CG type?

A: Choose CGI type when the application is Class 900 or above, when corrosive or toxic media are present, or when both inner and outer compression limiting and corrosion protection on the flange face at the annular space are required. CG type is suitable for flat face and raised face flanges at lower pressure classes.
